This Privacy Policy explains how GETTHESHIFT, INC. (“Shift,” “we,” “us,” “our”) collects, uses, shares, and protects your personal information when you use the Shift mobile app, website, and related services (“Service”).
We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how your data is used.
If you do not agree with this Privacy Policy, please do not use the Service.

2. What Information We Collect
We collect data in the following categories, depending on your use of the Service:
2.1 Information You Provide During Account Creation
- First Name & Last Name
- Date of Birth (to verify age eligibility)
- Gender Identity (Lad, Lass, Other + free text)
- Dating interest preferences
- Email address
- Username
- Profile photos
- City and local pub (if provided)
- Irish identity tags
- Bios (short/long, Social and Dating)
- Dating prompts & answers
- Interests (shared between profiles)
Signing in with Apple or Google provides us with the email and name you authorize.
2.2 Profile Information
Depending on which profile features you enable:
Social Profile (always on)
- Irish identity tags
- County
- Social bios
Dating Profile (optional)
- Dating visibility
- Who you’re open to dating
- Dating bios
- Dating photos and prompts
- Preferences that determine who can view you
If Dating Mode is turned off, dating information becomes hidden but remains stored until your account is deleted.
2.3 Content You Create In the App
- Comments on Craic articles
- Comment media (images)
- Reactions (6 types)
- Posts on entity chats
- Events/Get Togethers you create
- Check-ins at pubs and events
- Favorites (users, pubs, orgs, artists)
- Connection requests
- Messages (handled by GetStream — see Section 6)
2.4 Location Information
We may collect:
- Your city (entered manually or via permission)
- OS-level location data if you grant permission
- Proximity-based data (e.g., “within 0.5 miles”) for check-in eligibility
- Distance calculations to entities
We do not collect continuous background location.
Location is only accessed when the app is actively in use and permission is granted.
2.5 Device & Technical Data
Automatically collected:
- Device model
- Operating system
- App version & build number
- IP address
- Log files
- Crash logs and diagnostics
- Push notification tokens
- In-app actions (analytics)
2.6 Payment & Subscription Information
Handled by Apple/Google:
- Subscription tier
- Transaction ID
- Renewal tokens
- Receipt validation data
We do not store or process full credit card numbers.
2.7 Information From Others
If users interact with you (e.g., connecting, reacting, messaging), we collect those interactions.
If a user reports you, we receive:
- Their report
- Contextual content
- Any messages/comments involved
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your data to provide, improve, and personalize Shift.
Under GDPR, our lawful bases include: contract, legitimate interests, consent, and legal obligations.
3.1 To Provide Core Functionality (Contract)
We use your information to:
- Create and manage your account
- Display Social and Dating profiles
- Show compatible dating profiles
- Manage connections and requests
- Enable messaging
- Publish comments, reactions, and content
- Display your city, entities, and distances
- Facilitate check-ins at pubs/events
- Show fan counts and user presence
- Manage your subscriptions
3.2 To Improve the Service (Legitimate Interest)
We analyze usage patterns to:
- Fix bugs
- Improve recommendations
- Enhance performance
- Understand app usage trends
- Optimize user experience
- Prevent abuse or fraud
3.3 To Send Notifications (Consent or Legitimate Interest)
We send push notifications for:
- Connection requests
- Messages
- Event reminders
- Check-in prompts
- Subscription changes
- Admin announcements
You may disable notifications at any time in device settings.
3.4 Safety, Moderation & Enforcement (Legitimate Interest / Legal Obligation)
We use data to:
- Investigate reports
- Moderate harmful or abusive behavior

For Dating Mode, we use:

We process subscription upgrades and renewals and maintain required financial records.

We only share data as necessary to provide the Service.

Depending on your settings and mode:
Social Mode:
- Your Social profile

- Your comments/reactions
- Check-in visibility (if checked in)
- Favorites (if visible)
- Your presence in entity fan lists
Dating Mode (only when enabled):
- Your Dating profile
- Dating photos
- Prompts & answers
- Dating preferences (indirectly through matching)
Messaging:
- Messages are visible to your connection(s) only.
4.2 With Third-Party Service Providers
We share data with:
GetStream.io – Messaging infrastructure
- Stores and processes 1:1 message content
- Stores reactions, message metadata, attachments
- Used for moderation and abuse prevention
Apple & Google – Sign-in + Subscriptions
- Authentication
- Subscription billing and renewal
- Receipt validation
Cloud Hosting (e.g., AWS, GCP, or similar)
- Hosting databases
- Serving images & content
- Infrastructure security
Analytics Tools (e.g., Firebase, Amplitude)
- Usage data
- Feature analytics
- Crash reporting
- App performance metrics
Maps Provider
- Map previews
- Distance calculations
- Address lookups
Email/Support Tools (Intercom)

We only share what is necessary for these providers to perform services.

Shift may use:

We do not use web cookies in the mobile app, but cookies may exist on our website.
6. Messages & Communication Data
Messaging is handled by GetStream, which:
- Stores message content
- Supports moderation tools
- Tracks delivery/read receipts
- Hosts attachments (photos/images)
We may review messages only:
- When reported for violations
- When legally required
- To enforce safety
Messages are not sold or used for advertising.
7. Location Data Handling
Location data is used for:
- City autofill
- Distance to pubs, orgs, artists
- Event filtering
- Proximity-based check-ins
We do not track your precise location in the background.
We do not store your continuous movement.
We only store:
- City (text)
- Approximate proximity qualifiers (e.g., “within 0.5 miles”)
8. Data Retention
We retain data only as long as necessary for:
- Providing the Service
- Legal compliance
- Fraud prevention
- Subscription records
- Moderation and safety
When you delete your account:
- Profile data is permanently deleted
- Dating & Social content are deleted
- Check-in history is deleted
- Messages may be retained temporarily where required by law or safety
- Subscription receipts remain with Apple/Google
- Aggregated or anonymized analytics remain (cannot identify you)
9. Your Rights (GDPR, CCPA/CPRA)
Depending on your location, you have the right to:
9.1 Access Your Data
Request a copy of your personal data.
9.2 Correct Inaccuracies
Update profile information in-app.
9.3 Delete Your Data
Use Settings → Delete Account to permanently remove your account.
9.4 Data Portability
Request an export of your data.
9.5 Restrict or Object to Processing
Applies to analytics, notifications, and certain personalization.
9.6 Withdraw Consent
You may:
- Turn off Dating Mode
- Disable location access
- Disable notifications
- Remove photos
- Edit or delete profile information
- Unsubscribe from paid features
9.7 Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information (CCPA)
Shift does not sell personal data.
9.8 Right to Non-Discrimination
We will not treat you differently for exercising privacy rights.
10. Children’s Privacy
Shift is strictly 18+.
We do not knowingly collect information from children under 18.
If we learn that a minor has created an account, we will delete it.
11. Security
We use industry-standard security measures:
- Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS)
- Cloud infrastructure security
- Access controls
- Tokenized authentication
- Regular audits
No system is 100% secure.
Users must protect their account credentials.
12. International Transfers
